Bacardi Cocktail

A Daiquiri with grenadine—and the only cocktail in American history that the courts have ruled must be made with a specific brand. Pretty, pink, and historically loaded.

A Bacardi Cocktail—Bacardi rum, lime, and grenadine in a chilled coupe, the 1920s Cuba original

The History

Created in Cuba in the 1920s as a way to showcase Bacardi rum during Prohibition tourism. In 1936, the New York Supreme Court ruled in Bacardi vs Renfield that a ‘Bacardi Cocktail’ could only legally be served with Bacardi rum—the only cocktail in American legal history to require a specific brand by name. The ruling made the drink famous and Bacardi richer.
