Lei Lani Volcano
The Disney Polynesian Village Resort’s 1970s classic, served at the Tambu Lounge. Coconut rum, guava nectar, pineapple, lime, and crushed ice—creamy and floral, finished with tropical excess on top. The ‘Volcano’ is the bowl it was originally served in, not a flame.
The History
Tambu Lounge at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has served the Lei Lani Volcano since the 1970s. The ‘Volcano’ in the name refers to the volcano-shaped bowl the drink was originally served in—not fire. This is worth flagging: many secondary write-ups mistakenly describe the drink as flaming. The modern Tambu Lounge canonical serve is non-flaming in a tall glass with crushed ice; the volcano-bowl serve is the historical presentation but no longer the standard.
Ingredients
- 3 oz guava nectar
- 1.5 oz pineapple juice
- 0.75 oz fresh lime juice
- 0.25 oz simple syrup (1:1)
- 2.5 oz coconut rum (Malibu-class)
- Crushed ice
- Lime wheel, banana slice, fresh orchid bloom (garnish)
Directions
Combine all ingredients with crushed ice in a blender or shaker.
Blend or shake briefly.
Pour unstrained into a tall glass, topping with more crushed ice as needed.
Garnish with a lime wheel, a banana slice, and a fresh orchid bloom (a dendrobium if you can find one).
Not flaming
Despite the name, the canonical Tambu Lounge serve has no fire. The ‘Volcano’ refers to the bowl the drink was originally presented in. See the Lei Lani for the sibling highball cooler that gave the Volcano its name.
